Research in our lab addresses questions regarding the self, social experiences, and psychological adjustment. This focus emerges in my three main lines of inquiry: victimization, weight stigmatization, and health behavior.
Dr. Savoy’s Research Agenda
Together with collaborators, Dr. Savoy is currently investigating:
- Weight-based stereotypes as moderators of the relation between weight-related identity threat and
eating behavior - Perceived weight stigma and the social-cognitive mechanisms which underlie reactions to
health professionals’ messages about weight status - Barriers to treatment for disordered eating and peer help-seeking intentions
- Gender typicality and appearance-focused beliefs in girls
